Cookie Policy

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep. Some are needed for a site to work at all; others are optional and need your permission first.

This site uses very few, and none of them follow you around the internet. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not share anything with advertising networks.

Cookies we set to make the site work

These are described as strictly necessary, which means the site cannot do its job without them. They do not need your permission, but you should still know what they are.

• abc_cookie_choice — remembers whether you said yes or no to optional cookies. Without it you would be asked again on every page. Lasts six months. Set by us.
• abadmin — keeps a member of our staff logged in to the website's editor. It is only ever set after somebody logs in, so as a visitor you will never have it. Deleted when the browser closes. Set by us.

Optional cookies, which we ask about first

Nothing in this section loads unless you have pressed Accept.

• The map on our contact page. It is provided by Google, and Google sets a number of cookies when it loads — typically NID and similar, used by Google to remember preferences and for its own security and advertising purposes. They can last up to six months. These are Google's cookies, not ours, and we have no control over what is in them.

If you say no, the map is not loaded at all. We show the address and a link to directions instead, and there is a button to load the map just that once if you want it without changing your answer.

Things that are not cookies but are worth mentioning

• Google Fonts. The typefaces used on this site are served by Google. This sets no cookies, but your browser has to ask Google's servers for the font files, which means Google can see your IP address.

We mention it because it is a third party seeing something about you, which is the part people actually care about, whether or not a cookie is involved.

What we do not use

To be clear about what is absent:

• no advertising or retargeting cookies
• no social media tracking pixels
• no analytics at the time of writing. If we add a single analytics tag later, it will be listed here and will sit behind the same consent question as everything else optional.

Changing your mind

You can change your answer whenever you like using the cookie settings link, which also sits at the bottom of every page. Withdrawing permission is exactly as easy as giving it.

You can also delete cookies through your own browser settings, and set it to refuse them altogether. Bear in mind that blocking all cookies will stop us remembering that you asked not to be asked.
